Mother-Daughter Tea

Clara, Lily, Ella, & Rachel at The Washington Duke Inn

Kate and Clara joined several of their Mommy/Daughter friends for a very special afternoon tea at The Washington Duke Inn on the campus of Duke University in Durham.  Such a fancy time!  The girls, ranging from 3-7 years of age, dressed in their favorite attire (notice Clara's bonnet) to sit with their mommies among a fabulous assortment of finger sandwiches, scones, sweets, lemonade, tea, and (their favorite) hot chocolate.  Thank you to Martha for organizing such a special afternoon!  We have decided to make it an annual tradition, and we are even planning to do the next one at The Umstead.....as Clara says, "Fancy!!"

Clara's Butterflies

The experiment started on Clara's birthday...

...when she received this butterfly garden as a gift.

We put the caterpillars in a cup and watched them grow.

Soon they moved to the top of the cup...

...and formed chrysalides.

 

And we watched and waited, watched and waited.

We moved the chrysalides from the cup to their butterfly garden.

Soon they became butterflies!

Which thrilled us to no end.

We fed the butterflies with honey on the flowers in their garden...

...and when it grew warm outside, we let them fly free.

N.C. State Farm Days 2013

The girls had a wonderful time at N.C. State's annual "Farm Days" this year! They were able to get up close and personal with baby chicks, bunnies, cows, horses, sheep, turkeys, and VERY large tractors. But the highlight of the event every year is the homemade N.C. State ICE CREAM! A few highlights from this year's event.........
