Clara's plan was always to be Elsa.
Hattie's was to be Anna, then Cinderella, then several other things, all options bouncing through her two-year-old decision-making system every five minutes. She settled on Mermaid Princess, but not without some last minute consternation.
But that resolved itself rather quickly, and Hattie discovered the joys of trick-or-treating. Within a few houses, she had perfected the holiday manners of "Happy Halloween," Trick-or-Treat," and the important "thank you" follow up.
This was our second Halloween on the "sac," and the neighborhood decided to pull out the modified hayride again. Brook and Jenna provided the rig and hay, and the kids (and parents) rode around the neighborhood as if on a float in a parade.
We started off with a huge pizza party at nearby Quail Hollow Swimming Club...
Clara probably bagged a cool 10 pounds of candy, and Hattie wasn't far behind. Paul notes that everyone seems to give out the good brand-name stuff (Snickers, M&M's, Kit-Kats)...the things he remembers only getting from the "rich" houses when he was a trick-or-treater. I guess a lot more people are candy-rich these 30-years later. Our girls aren't complaining. No need to sift through little bags of candy corn filler or handfuls of laffy-taffy.
We finished up with a cul-de-sac oyster roast party at the Acombe's house. Hattie got to play until nearly 9:00, and Clara burned the 10:30 midnight oil...perhaps going to bed later than ever before. Ahhh...nice to have Halloween on a Friday night!
