Decorating for Christmas 2014

It's our second Christmas on Lambeth, and the traditions are beginning to take hold. The first is getting the tree from a lot just up the road at North Hills on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Ga walked up with Kate and the girls to make sure everyone got some fresh air after being cooped up a bit over the past couple days.

The Christmas tree people bring Douglas Firs down from the North Carolina mountains and set up shop in the North Hills shopping center.

Clara scouts out the perfect tree from her perch on the sleigh...

Found it!

Paul hauls the load back to the house...

Hattie does her best grinch impression:

Clara posing with six years of ornaments made at the pottery shop. (Their hands have outgrown the ornament options, so we'll probably move to thumbprints next year...)

Clara, with a little help from Daddy, gets to put the angel on top.

Just Life: Candid Photos & Videos

It's easy for us to only post the big events. The birthdays, the visits, the Halloweens, the report cards. But so much of the fun stuff is in between all of that. Just life happening. It's doesn't fit under any tidy category, but it gives the glimpse into the joys (or not so joys) of every day. So we'll just label this post as miscellaneous life with Hattie and Clara in October and November 2014.

Thanksgiving 2014

For the ninth straight year, we stuck around Raleigh for Thanksgiving. This year we held the feast at home, and (another first) were joined by Ga and Pappaw. In most years Pappaw has done turkey day at Camp and Ga goes to New York with Jimmy. But now they're official snowbirds, and it works perfectly to stop by Raleigh on their way down to the warmth of the South Carolina beaches for winter.

Pappaw reading good night stories to Hattie (in Clara's bed). Hattie splits the time between hop on Pappaw and reading cuddles.

More reading and cuddles...

Showing Ga Clara's school...

And Thanksgiving dinner. Clara and Hattie helped set the table. Funny enough, after nearly two years of living on Lambeth, this was the first time the young ones had ever had a meal in the dining room. Funny to think. Of course, it's probably only the fifth or sixth time Kate and Paul have eaten in there.

Given that it was their first time in the dining room, Hattie and Clara get the head-of-table seats.

Kate brought home a game from her office, one she had in Pennsylvania as a kid. We're not sure what's it's called, but it's basically a battleship-like process of elimination (and guessing) game. The girls love it. Friday morning after Thanksgiving, the girls hustle Pappaw into a game and teach him how it works. Notice they're on the same team, in cahoots. Hard to beat the Dryden Girls united!
