We had lots more fun in February. Here is a sampling of fun and photos:
Mama had a girls night in Pinehurst. Paul and the girls celebrated by joining the Goldens for a Moral March in downtown Raleigh.
Clara's class made it on tv after a visit from a local station meteorologist...
A visit from Ga and Pappaw means reading in bed...
Dress up day at school. Clara has become known for her healthy interest in puppy dogs...
Kate brought home the game Life from work. Clara loves mastering the rules and strategy of a new game. Hattie tolerates it when the patience can last...
Our Clara turned eight today! She celebrated at school, at home, and we had a family dinner out at Cowfish. Call this round 1. The real party comes in a couple of weeks...
We're deep into our second year of Y Guides. One of our dad's is a muckety-muck at SAS and was able to get the corporate box for a tribe Hurricane's outing.
St. Timothy's gives a Winter Break holiday, so Paul and Kate decided to take a couple days off and head up to Virginia. We got to visit with our cousins in Buena Vista (and see Grandma and Grandpa, of course), and we had our first ever family ski trip to Wintergreen.
At dinner the night before our first ski day, we're talking about signing up the girls for ski school. Neither of them have ever skied before. Paul has no skills to teach, and it's been years since Kate skied. Clara resists the idea, and she's digging in. When Hattie and Mama leave for a bathroom break, Clara finally explains why..."Daddy," she says, "it's just that I'm a self-taught person." Ha! Hard to argue with that, so no ski school.
Paul gets a snowboard and the girls get on skis. It's a warm couple days, with the temperature climbing into the 60's and the sun peaking through. Even with the snow slowly disappearing, Clara demonstrates that she is, indeed, quite the autodidact. By the second day, she was insisting on running the hill all on her own.
Hattie, too, got past a rough start, to show some strong snow skills. She skied between Kate's legs. The first run was rough and may or may not have involved a full-blown panic attack. (No judgment...it's perfectly rational for anyone - especially a five-year-old - to stand at the top of a steep hill with pieces of wood strapped to your feet and say, this makes no sense!) But with Mama's encouragement, she kept at it and felt much more comfortable by the end of our stay.
In true small-world fashion, we ran into our Raleigh friends the Cobbs at the resort. Mrs. Cobb also happens to be Hattie pre-K assistant teacher.
We think this may become an annual affair!
Including our overnight visit with cousins on the way back...
Jason Prince flew into Raleigh as he and Paul headed down to the swamps of South Carolina for a manly-man Davidson guys reunion at Dewey's family cabin.
