Vacation Bible School 2014
Another year of VBS, and another album of praise music to hear on repeat. The theme this year was Strange Animals. Kate was able to volunteer for a few days and bring Hattie along. And, of course, Friday evening brought the grand finale play.

Hattie Sleep Adaptation
While Carole has the magic touch for getting Hattie down for naps, it proves more difficult for her parents. We resort to quick drives in the car, and our second daughter magically falls asleep in her car seat. But since we've never mastered the nap transition from car to crib, we keep Hattie in her seat for the duration of the snooze. With the summer heat, we have to resort to novel options for keeping things cool.

Hattie in Potty Training Mode
With the Number One part down pat, Hattie's working hard on conquering Number Two. The reward for "plopping the poops in the poop swimming pool?" Two M&M's.

Dryden Girls on the Piano
Hattie is showing a lot of interest in music and bangs around on the piano quite a bit. Kate caught her in the act this morning and brought Clara along for a quick row.

Day 4 - Beach Trip
Last day at the beach. We packed in a breakfast at the cafe, a walk along the beach, and one last dip in the pool.

Day 3 - Beach Trip
The hit of the beach house is its small splash pool in the backyard. This is the first time we've been in Wild Dunes for the summer, and it is hot! If you're not at the beach, you want to be in the pool. The girls were such pool fanatics, that we only got them to the beach twice! (And after much cajoling.)
Clara got a lot of practice on her backflips:

Day 1 - Beach Trip
After a decade visiting Wild Dunes, Ga and Pappaw decided it was time to join the landed gentry. They bought a beach house, and this trip was our first visit.

Greystone Swim Meet
Clara's first real swim competition was an away meet at Ms. Carole's pool. The girls go there frequently with Carole, so the familiarity was nice. And Carole was a helper (albeit with the competition), so she was there to offer support. As Clara lined up for her first race, Carole made a point of kneeling next to her and whispering words of encouragement. (We love Carole!)
It was blazing hot, and the first meet was more overwhelming for the parents than it was for Clara. She seems to enjoy the competition of it all. Either that or the glory of ribbons.
