Memorial Day Weekend in NYC

A fun weekend in NYC over Memorial Day, something we hope to make into an annual tradition. We stayed at the WestHouse Hotel on W 55th Street, making it easy to get to Central Park, Times Square, Columbus Circle and the rest of Midtown.

We hit Broadway to watch Six (about Henry the XVIII's wives) and Aladdin.

Walked around Rockefeller Center, including at stop into FAO Schwarz.

We grabbed an early dinner at Quality Bistro, nabbing one of their outdoor booths.

And we took in some of the galleries at MOMA.

Hattie in Cotillion

Despite being forced to dance with boys and allow them to pull her seat our for her before dinner, Hattie is having fun learning some etiquette and being with friends at Cotillion.

Kitchen Renovations (Phase 1)

We did a minor project in the kitchen, painting the cabinets and changing some appliances. We're forced to call this Phase 1 of the renovation because it will take months (years?) more before we can replace the broken oven that started the job to begin with. In the meantime, we make do with a toaster oven, range and grill to satisfy our cooking needs.

Hattie as Julia Child for Biography Night

STS 4th graders have an end-of-year project where each is assigned an historical figure to research, dress as, and write an overview of...all culminating with reciting a short speech for classmates and families.

Hattie drew Julia Child and immersed herself in the chef's world for a few weeks in preparation for the role.

(A video of her speech on the blog....)
